A diferenza di altri hotel il Peninsula
è un punto di riferimento per tutta
la città. Dai residenti è spesso scelto
per i suoi ristoranti, la spa e i negozi
dell’Arcade, ma il rito più popolare è
l’high tea a metà pomeriggio e noi non
vogliamo mancarlo. L’inappuntabile
cameriere ci porge un ricco
menu di tè tra i quali scegliere.
Al centro del tavolo viene
depositato un vassoio a
strati con pasticcini, scone,
tramezzini ecioccolatini per
chi vuole fnire in dolcezza.
Sotto i neoclassici stucchi
dorati dalla hall più famosa
d’Oriente, avvolti dalla
musica classica dell’orchestra
sulla balconata, partecipiamo
a questo antico rito, gustando la
pausa in tutto il suo fascino eglamour.
Terminato il tè una passeggiata nella
Peninsula Arcade dove i brand più
esclusivi hanno le loro vetrine, non
proprio a prezzi scontati. Il meglio
del meglio concentrato sui due piani
molto, ma molto esclusivi.

waiter hands us a menu full of teas
to choose from. In the centre of the

sandwiches and chocolates for those
who would like to end on a sweet
note. Underneath the neoclassical

In 40 minuti sbuchiamo in Salisbury
Road e scorgiamo la sagoma
inconfondibile dell’hotel. Una volta
gli ospiti arrivavano al porto con
lussuose navi di linea o con i rumorosi
ma veloci voli della China Clipper
della Pan Am e davanti all’hotel c’era
solo la baia. Oggi la strada è ben
più afollata di edifci come lo Space
Museum, l’Art Museume l’Hong Kong
Cultural Center proprio di fronte
all’albergo. Sulla porta ci attendono
i receptionist per scortarci alle suite
dove faremo il check-in sorseggiando
uno dei rinomati tè verdi miscelati
esclusivamente per The Pen.
