Come non ricordare il periodo delle grandi esplorazioni,
quando europei coraggiosi (e temerari) rischiavano la vita per
scoprire le sorgenti del Nilo. Il “mal d’Africa” è dall’Ottocento
che si difonde anche tra coloro che mai avrebbero pensato di
avventurarsi così lontano e in terre così diverse e a volte difcili.
Oggi molto è cambiato. La mia Africa della Blinxen è un
lontano ricordo. Eppure un viaggio in Africa regala ancora
emozioni vere, un contatto con la natura come forse mai
abbiamo sperimentato prima. Non solo l’incontro con i “big
fve” che tutti rincorrono. Ma anche il silenzio assordante della
savana, il misticismo del deserto, la musica della giungla che si
sveglia al mattino.
How is it possible to forget the period of the great explorations,
when courageous (and fearless) Europeans risked their lives to
discover the source of the Nile. African nostalgia. It is from the
eighteen hundreds that it spread among those who would never
have thought of wandering so far and to lands so diferent and at
times difcult.
Today is diferent. Blinxen’s Out of Africa is a distant memory.
And yet, a trip to Africa is really moving, in contact with nature as
we have, perhaps, never been before. Not onlymeeting up with the
“big fve” that everybody is after. But also the deafening silence of
