entre la veloce barca scivola sullo stretto afuente
del Mekong la vegetazione sulla riva si fa più ftta. Il
butler che ci accompagna indica una collina ricoperta
dalla giungla, è li che si trova il resort. Praticamente invisibile,
sepolto tra la vegetazione. Le 15 tende sono un capolavoro di
inserimento ambientale ma anche di ricostruzione storica. Il
tema sono le spedizioni del secolo scorso e ogni dettaglio è
curato. Dalla vasca di rame, alle rifniture dei lavandini in pelle,
alle cerniere delle tende, alla doccia esterna. Il tutto condito con
un lusso discretoma reale. L’aria condizionata, la grande terrazza
panoramica tra le piante, i binocoli a disposizione, il cocktail
servito al tramonto sulla terrazza dedicata.
Boun Maa e Thong Kham sono sulla cinquantina ma
li portano bene. Si muovono lentamente ma sempre
con eleganza. Hanno i modi di signore di classe ma non
hanno dimenticato le traversie che le hanno portate in
quella regione. Mentre accarezzo la fronte di Boun Maa
quasi mi pungo con i suoi peli, radi ma irti come quelli di
un porcospino. E’ immensa eppure si inginocchia fino a

It is there that the resort is situated - almost invisible because
of the dense vegetation. The ffteen tents are a masterpiece of
environmental insertion but also historical reconstruction. The
theme is expeditions of the past century and every detail is perfect
- from the copper bathtub, to the leather face basins, to the zips on
the tents, to the outdoor shower. Everything is dressed in discreet
luxury yet quite real: the air conditioning, the grand panoramic
terrace amid the plants, the handy binoculars, the cocktails served
on the beftting terrace.
Boun Maa and Thong Kham are in their ffties - but look
younger - and their slow gait is one of graceful elegance. They
have the ways of classy ladies but have not forgotten the
difculties which brought themto this region. Whilewe caress the
elephants’ foreheads, we also prick ourselves stroking their sparse
hair, sticking up like the needles of a porcupine. The animals are
immense yet, nevertheless, can kneel and lower their heads to
