I
l Peninsula di Bangkok è una torre non bellissima che sorge
sulle rive del fume rivolta al quartiere coloniale, o meglio al
quartiere dove vivevano gli europei perchè il regno di Siam
non èmai stato colonizzato. Forse per questo i sovrani thailandesi
non hanno mai voluto cambiare l’alfabeto a quello latino, come
è invece successo in Indonesia e altri paesi del Sud-Est Asiatico.
Sono 14 le stanze per i trattamenti della Peninsula Spa by Espa
più 4 spa suites per trattamenti di coppia nella più totale privacy.
Il concept si basa sull’uso di materiali naturali e sulla totale
personalizzazione dell’esperienza. L’ospite prenota un tempo -
60, 90, 120 minuti - e all’interno di quel lasso di tempo vengono
organizzati i trattamenti a seconda delle esigenze individuali. Gli
ospiti sono incoraggiati ad arrivare almeno con una mezz’ora di
anticipo per rilassarsi nella Tea Lounge o nella sauna in modo
da approfttare al meglio dei trattamenti. I locali perfettamente
insonorizzati isolano dal mondo esterno, la musica di atmosfera
e i profumi speziati difusi negli ambienti coinvolgono gli ospiti
in un viaggio sensoriale che non può non terminare al Thiptara,
l’indimenticabile ristorante thai, o al Mei Jiang, nel caso invece ci
si voglia premiare con la migliore cucina cinese in città.
Il bellboy in una impeccabile divisa bianco Peninsula e guanti
immacoltai, mi saluta con un «See you next time mister Taylor»,
ancora non ho capito come faccia il personale a memorizzare i
nomi degli ospiti (si mormora nei backstage ci siano appese le
foto segnaletiche degli ospiti) in ogni caso fa piacere. E mentre
sulla BMW nera serie 7 lo chafeur in livrea mi chiede con quale
compagnia volo già penso a quando ritornare.

he Peninsula, Bangkok is an unpretentious tower that rises on
the banks of the river facing the colonial quarter - or better,
the quarter where the Europeans lived, since the kingdom of
Siam was never colonised. Perhaps, for this reason the Thai rulers
have never wanted to substitute their alphabet for the Latin one, as
did the Indonesians and other nations of Southeast Asia.
The treatment rooms number 14 at the Peninsula Spa by Espa,
plus 4 spa suites for couples’ treatments in absolute privacy. The
concept is based on the use of natural materials and the total
personalisation of the experience. Guests reserve a time – 60,
90 120 minutes – and in this period treatments are organised
according to individual preferences. They are encouraged to arrive
at least half an hour in advance to relax in the Tea Lounge or in
the sauna in order to better enjoy their treatments. The perfectly
sound-proof areas close out the rest of the world; the background
music and the fragrance of spices permeating the air involve guests
in a sensorial journey which then entice them to visit Thiptara, the
unforgettable Thai restaurant or, instead, Mei Jiang, if theywant to
rewards themselves with the best Chinese cuisine in the city.
The bellboy, in an impeccable white Peninsula uniform
with immaculate gloves, greets me with a “See you next
time, Mr. Taylor”. (I still cannot figure out how the staff can
memorise the names of the guests. Backstage it is murmured
that there are photos to identity them). Nevertheless, this
gesture is a pleasure. And when in the black series 7 BMW
the chauffeur asks me with which airline I will be flying, I am
already meditating on when to return.
