’anima dell’elegante residenza, oggi albergo di lusso, è
una graziosa rotonda afancata da due ali simmetriche
di più recente costruzione e con fnestre a oblò. Una delle
caratteristiche dell’architettura Art Déco, quello stile eclettico e
fastoso che riecheggia negli interni, ed è un richiamo agli anni
in cui il Vietnam era una colonia francese.
Nelle 122 camere e suite (dieci si trovano nel corpo originale)
lo stile è una fusione tra comfort coloniale e opulenza orientale,
con pavimenti in parquet, mobilio in tek e tutti quei servizi e
accessori di rigore per il viaggiatore contemporaneo. Tutte le
camere sono dotate di balconi o terrazze, molte con vista sulla
Cittadella e sul fume, altri sul giardino e sulla grande piscina di
acqua salata che serpeggia lungo il corso del fume.
Nelle Signature Suite, i ventilatori a pala e letti a baldacchino
piaceranno ai più romantici, e ci si può concedere il lusso
di dormire in un’atmosfera d’altri tempi nella Monuments
d’Egypte, o nella Voyage en Chine. La grande terrazza della
Resident Suite è un angolo paradisiaco per il relax e per
sorseggiare un aperitivo al tramonto.
Nel ristorante Le Parfum ci si siede per la prima colazione,
il pranzo e la cena. I menu fondono l’optimum della cucina
europea e mediterranea con i delicati sapori della cucina
vietnamita. Nei mesi estivi, seduti ai tavoli sulla grande terrazza,
è piacevole osservare l’animato trafco fuviale che fa la spola
dalle prime ore del mattino fno al tramonto.
La Spa, ispirata allo stile Art Déco, ofre una ricca gamma
di trattamenti. Qui ci si rilassa dopo una giornata passata
alla scoperta della ricca storia dell’antica capitale Nguyen.
E per chi vuole cimentarsi nella cucina tipica di Hue, la più
rafnata di tutto il Vietnam, la scuola di cucina ofre corsi che
iniziano con una visita in bicicletta al mercato ortofrutticolo,
e fniscono a tavola per assaggiare i piatti preparati sotto
l’occhio attento dello chef.

he core of the elegant white former residence, now a luxury
hotel, is a gracious rotunda which has two symmetrical
wings (added at a later date) with porthole windows: one
of the characteristics of Art Déco architecture. This eclectic and
sumptuous style can be found throughout the hotel and refects
the years when Vietnamwas a French colony.
In the 122 rooms and suites (ten of which are in the original
rotunda) the decor is a blend of colonial comfort and oriental
opulence with parquet foors and teak furniture. And they all have
those services and accessories that satisfy today’s sophisticated
travellers. The balconies and terraces have magnifcent views over
the Citadel or over the gardens, and the large salt-water pool hugs
the contours of the Perfume River.
The whirring fans and canopy beds in the Signature Suites will
appeal to themore romantic traveller, and thosewho like to dream
in heritage surroundings should take the “Monuments d’Egypte” or
the “Voyage en Chine.” The spacious terrace of the Resident Suite is
made for relaxing - evenmore so sipping a sundowner.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served in the Le Parfum
Restaurant where the menu is an enticing blend of European,
Mediterranean and Vietnamese specialties. In summer the tables
spill out onto the large riverfront terrace, which is afne observation
point for watching the river trafc ply its way up and downriver
from the early morning hours to dusk.
The Spa, next to the pool, is stylish and Art Déco-inspired.
Indulging one of the many treatments, or a herbal sauna, is a sure
way to unwind after a day spent discovering the history of the
former Nguyen capital. And for those who want to delve into Hue’s
famous cuisine, which is the most refned in all of Vietnam, the
cookery school is the answer. Lessons start by bicycling to the local
market to pick up the fresh ingredients, and end by sitting down to
enjoy the dishes prepared under the watchful eye of the chef.
